Every day after that he released teasers of songs on Instagram leading up to the release date. On January 6, Sheeran released two songs, ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’, which are off his new album “÷” . The two singles have acoustic sounds powered by upbeat lyrics and pop beats. They reference a developing romance that his teenage audience may relate to.

Both songs are completely the opposite of his previous album “X” (Multiply), which had more of a mellow and acoustic sound and whose lyrics related to Sheeran’s personal life stories. Nonetheless, people love it.

‘Shape of You’ debuted #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, being Sheeran’s first #1 in the U.S, and sold 240,000 copies in its first week. ‘Castle on the Hill’ debuted at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both songs have reached more than 1 million views on YouTube.

Ed Sheeran has also released the tracklist for his upcoming album via Twitter. There are 12 songs on the album and 16 songs on the deluxe version. Additional songs include ‘Perfect’, ‘New Man’, and ‘Dive’. The album will be available on Friday, March 3.
