Animals Affected by Fires

Juliana Navarro, Writer

As of September 14, 2020more than 3.2 million acres across California have burned and 24 people have been found dead, although the search still goes on. What about animals? How have they been affected? Unfortunately, several animals have been affected during these tragic times including, foxesrabbits, deer, frogs, mice, coyotes, and many more innocent creatures.”

Wildfires occur as a result of environmental factors such as heat waves, droughts, and climate change. These wildfires have not only, “…[forced] people to evacuate their homes and putting their lives at risk,” which has ruined the lives of many animals in similar situations. Human interference has not only damaged the animals’ well-being but created climate change as well as been changing the environment on earth for good. In many cases, ranches have been burned in order to create free space for animals that are fed, then used as a source of food and clothing.

Burning of land causes environmental problems such as deforestations and droughts leading tthe increase of earth’s surface temperaturecaused by the burning of fossil fuels. It is important to try to prevent these environmental tragedies from occurring due to the effect it would have on wildlife such as a shortage of food, water, and homes. This causes many species to migrate in search of a safe new home full of available resources they require in order to thrive.
