Welcome Back Rally; A Hit or Flop?

Junior Keophovangphet, Staff Writer

On August 20, 2021, the first-ever rally took place on Edison high school campus after a year and a half of lockdowns and quarantine. To say the least, the hype and atmosphere were exciting and breathing taking, or was it? After talking to students ranging from grade 9th all the way to grade 12 before the rally, the opinions about the rally were mixed. Many of the students were concerned about the safety of the rally due to the lack of social distancing. Widespread were the low expectations of the students because of the gymnasium, where rallies are usually held, being under construction. This led many of the upperclassmen to feel as if they were not having a true Edison rally. After interviewing the leadership team, who were preparing for the rally, many felt excited and happy about how the preparations were going. One thing to note was how the Leadership class noted the difference of this rally from previous rallies because they were placing the rally on the amphitheater.

Thoughts about rally?

“I thought it was a good effort at still doing a rally instead of doing a virtual one. I think it was the best option.” – Rebekah Krumpe, Grade 12

“I thought it was great but sad because the Juniors didn’t win” -Velaria Carrillo, Grade 10

“It was my first rally; I didn’t like being on the itchy grass and scorching sun. I didn’t have anything to compare it to and I think it was good. “- Kitana L., Grade 10

The rally began and the atmosphere was nervous, exciting, and tense. The seniors and juniors were excited, but not as hyped. The freshman and sophomores were excited ad didn’t know what to expect. The class representations were a fail at first but the ending one of absolutely full of hype. The games played were Over and Under, Hungry Hungry Shark, and Ship Race. Seniors won most of the games which created lots of excitement and hype for the class. The freshmen and sophomores struggled but enjoyed their time. The Juniors were also having as much fun and hype as the seniors. The leadership team were also happy with the outcome. Overall, the rally successfully introduced hype and joy into the once empty halls and space that used to be occupied.
