People walked together as a show of support for suicide prevention at Woodward Park on Saturday, September 17th. Out of the Darkness walks are a fundraiser event put on by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention meant to “acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.”

The event had numerous ways to remember those lost to suicide, including a hope and healing honor board that pictures of loved ones could be attached to and the distribution of honor beads that represented the challenges faced in people’s lives.

The walk provided a place for people to connect and share their experiences with mental health challenges and suicide. The AFSP uses the money raised to provide resources to communities and individuals who are in need of counseling or support with mental health issues. The walk is an annual event each September for suicide prevention month.
