Remembering 9/11
September 17, 2019
On September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers in New York was destroyed and killed 2,996 Americans. But why? And who was responsible? How and why did they do it? What was the consequence of this action? I will take the time to answer these questions in detail. The Twin Towers (also known as the World Trade Center) was built in 1976. It was the 2 tallest building in the western hemisphere. In 2001, a group called Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 planes and attacked the World Trade Center with 2 planes, the Pentagon with 1 plane and planned to attack the White House but was thwarted by their captives. It was a direct terrorist act against the United States. The US quickly pinned blamed on Al-Qaeda. While Osama Bin Laden (leader of Al-Qaeda) had denied it previously, in 2004, he took responsibility for the attacks. Their motives were to start a holy war against the United States. 9/11 is known as the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the United States. This led to what is known as “The Global War on Terrorism”. Ultimately, this led to the leader of Al-Qaeda‘s, Osama Bin Laden, death. He was killed by SEAL Team 6. His death has led to the group being diminished, not destroyed altogether. For the memory of the innocent and brave souls who lost their lives on that day. Let the American people never forget 9/11.
