Taking Care of Animals

Taking Care of Animals

Heaven Balladarez, Staff Writer

Animals’ homes are always getting ruined and taken over by humans. Every day trees get cut down, homes for many birds and squirrels. Parks are getting built on lakes and rivers and fish are forced to be moved into different places unfamiliar of them. Houses get built on the very land that animals could have been their whole lives. An elephant seal has tarted to wander the very place that used to be just sand and dirt, right on the beach that now has concrete pavements and buildings.

I interviewed three people asking them five questions each. The first was Orlando Balladarez at 4:50 pm on October 8, 2020. (10-8-20)

  • What do you think about this?
    • “When an animal does that, they’re either lost or they’re hungry, that’s just how it is.”
  • If you could, what would you do about it?
    • Yeah, nowadays we’ll probably record it to TikTok, Instagram, or SnapChat.”
  • How do you feel about people taking over animal habitats and building things over them?
    • I don’t like it; you’re killing off animals when you do that.
  • Would you have been part of the group to help the elephant seal?
    • Yes, an obvious choice.
  • Have you even had an encounter with a wild animal before? If so, what animal and, if you can remember, when?
    • Snakes and lizards while living in Fowler, but that’s about it.

The second Josie Balladarez, at 9:30 pm on October 8, 2020. (10-8-20)

  • What do you think about this?
    • That’s crazy.”
  • If you could, what would you do about it?
    • “I would try to help it.”
  • How do you feel about people taking over animal habitats and building things over them?
    • “It’s not very nice.”
  • Would you have been part of the group to help the elephant seal?
    • “Yes, that’s a quick yes.”
  • Have you even had an encounter with a wild animal before? If so, what animal and, if you can remember, when?
    • “No, no I haven’t.”

The last person I interviewed was a friend, Aubriana Tate, at 1:40 pm on October 9, 2020. (10-9-20)

  • What do you think about this?
    • “Okay, I feel good about it because it was rescued.”
  • If you could, what would you do about it?
    • “Nothing ‘cause they are rescuing it. I’m happy about that.”
  • How do you feel about people taking over animal habitats and building things over them?
    • “I feel bad about the animals ‘cause that’s where they lived and that’s a terrible thing to do ‘cause that’s their home.”
  • Would you have been part of the group to help the elephant seal?
    • “Yes, definitely.”
  • Have you even had an encounter with a wild animal before? If so, what animal and, if you can remember, when?
    • Yes, I have. I had one with a coyote during a cabin trip outside. Its eyes were glowing!
