Welcome Back Rally; A Hit or Flop?
September 24, 2021
On August 20, 2021, the first-ever rally took place on Edison high school campus after a year and a half of lockdowns and quarantine. To say the least, the hype and atmosphere were exciting and breathing taking, or was it? After talking to students ranging from grade 9th all the way to grade 12 before the rally, the opinions about the rally were mixed. Many of the students were concerned about the safety of the rally due to the lack of social distancing. Widespread were the low expectations of the students because of the gymnasium, where rallies are usually held, being under construction. This led many of the upperclassmen to feel as if they were not having a true Edison rally. After interviewing the leadership team, who were preparing for the rally, many felt excited and happy about how the preparations were going. One thing to note was how the Leadership class noted the difference of this rally from previous rallies because they were placing the rally on the amphitheater.
Thoughts about rally?
“I thought it was a good effort at still doing a rally instead of doing a virtual one. I think it was the best option.” – Rebekah Krumpe, Grade 12
“I thought it was great but sad because the Juniors didn’t win” -Velaria Carrillo, Grade 10
“It was my first rally; I didn’t like being on the itchy grass and scorching sun. I didn’t have anything to compare it to and I think it was good. “- Kitana L., Grade 10
The rally began and the atmosphere was nervous, exciting, and tense. The seniors and juniors were excited, but not as hyped. The freshman and sophomores were excited ad didn’t know what to expect. The class representations were a fail at first but the ending one of absolutely full of hype. The games played were Over and Under, Hungry Hungry Shark, and Ship Race. Seniors won most of the games which created lots of excitement and hype for the class. The freshmen and sophomores struggled but enjoyed their time. The Juniors were also having as much fun and hype as the seniors. The leadership team were also happy with the outcome. Overall, the rally successfully introduced hype and joy into the once empty halls and space that used to be occupied.

It was a good attempt to bringing back school spirit, but it will take some time to get students back into the feel of school.

I LOVED this rally, leadership did an incredible job. I was skeptical at first but amazed at how how incredible student body pulled this off! Just proves once again, NOTHING can stop the Edison Tigers!

I wish it had been better coordinated, I felt like no one knew what was going on.

I really like the title, really grabs attention

It would’ve been way better if we had a gym.

it was a bad day to have a rally, too hot & not everyone was able to sit down. The rally itself was uninteresting as well.

It captures the feeling of what happens, gives good details to how everyone is feeling.

I believe the rally progressed surprisingly well with all the challenges provided due to COVID and construction.

I honestly feel this rally was a hit for what we had to work with.

I think this rally was a hit for what our options were.

I think this rally was a very creative option!

I agree with everything said. This rally wasn’t as fun or exciting to the previous rallies I’ve experienced. The heat and having to stand the whole time, because there wasn’t enough room for everyone, definitely didn’t make the experience better.

If only we had a gym.
