“Lift” is your typical heist movie where a group of criminals led by Cyrus (Kevin Hart) is recruited by Interpol agent Abby (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) to stop a terrorist named Jorgenson (Jean Reno). Jorgenson plans to commit acts of terrorism to manipulate the stock market and make money. The mission involves stealing gold bars mid-air from a passenger plane.
The film tries hard to be trendy, incorporating elements like NFTs and popular TikTok songs. However, these attempts feel desperate and out of touch, making the movie seem outdated. Despite its efforts, “Lift” lacks substance. The plot is basic, and the plane setting doesn’t add any meaningful elements to the story. The film misses the mark on being relevant and ends up feeling like an advertisement for like aircraft features.
Overall, “Lift” isn’t made for enjoyment, it feels more like a film created to meet some Netflix requirement or something. If the creator intended to make it entertaining, it seems they missed it. The movie is basically uninteresting, boring and it had little to no potential to be good, but they could’ve at least tried harder with what they had.
