As the Premier League approaches the end of the season with 31 games played, a 3 headed race to determine the title is reaching its peak. Arsenal (71 points), Liverpool (71 points), and Manchester City (70 points) combine for the tightest title race in recent history.
Arsenal are undefeated this year in the Premier League, and are for now atop of the Premier League, but only on goal difference. Arsenal seem to be a coherent team and their finishing is on point, however their defense has a small level of uncertainty that may be costly. With a really tough run of fixtures ahead it is doubtful they will win the title, nonetheless, they have had a fantastic season and will definitely look to build with Arteta for the future.
Liverpool have had a rollercoaster season so far full of late winners, surprising comebacks, and the announcement of Klopp’s departure at the end of this season has certainly put some fire under the club. Liverpool have disappointing finishing in attack (but do score) is saved by their magisterial midfield led by Alex MacAllister and their strong defense have put them in second so far. A recent draw against Manchester United handed over the advantage to Arsenal. Easier fixtures ahead compared to Arsenal, but still some inconsistency among Liverpool (especially in a 3-0 demolition by Atalanta in the Europa League) makes it difficult to see them lifting the Premier League trophy.
Manchester City, 3-peat champions, and are in the hunt for their fourth. However, they sit in third, one point back from Arsenal and Liverpool. Manchester City seem so dominant with such talent in every player of their squad, but in order to win this title, City will probably have to win out. Luckily for them they have arguably the easiest final games out of the three. It hasn’t been quite the walk in the park as Pep had hoped for, partially for injuries to key players and Haaland not breaking the scoring record again. It just seems so difficult to imagine a world where City doesn’t win this title race with all the talent, genius, and superiority they have.
