Biomed, one of the pathways at Edison, can be rigorous for its students diving headfirst into the art of medicine. Its teachers, Mrs. Aflague and Mr. McFadden, know this well, so near the start of the year they throw a party for everyone in the pathway.
On September 19th from 3:45 to 5 PM, the Biomed Kickoff Party took place in the area surrounding the cafeteria and amphitheater. The party’s purpose is for Biomed students, from freshmen to seniors, to relax, get to know each other, and celebrate their accomplishments in the course.
The kickoff party is run like a school carnival. Once they checked in, attendees would each get a bingo card, serving as an instrument of a scavenger hunt to get to know their Biomed teachers. If you fill out the card, you get raffle tickets. Attendees could also obtain raffle tickets by playing various games, such as an adaptation of disc golf called Frisbee-Freak Out; Virus Hunter, where you shoot virus cutouts; the classic board game Operation with prompts of specific bones or organs to take out; corn-hole; and even Dance Dance Revolution!
The raffle tickets were used to win prizes such as gift cards for Family Dollar, Starbucks, and more.
Popsicles, nachos, water, and other edibles and drinks were served at the kickoff. Additionally, students could pick up Biomed swag such as planners and string backpacks. There was even a chance of finding headphones inside one of these backpacks.
Many Biomed students showed up, and altogether, the night was especially memorable. Kicking off what should be an exciting year in the pathway.
