Top 10 SF Giants Moments of 2020

Remembering the Unforgettable Year of Baseball

Sergio Romero, Staff Writer

Although the San Francisco Giants didn’t make the playoffs this past year, the season was still entertaining and had plenty of memorable moments. These are some of my favorite Giant moments of the 2020 season.

Honorable Mentions

Dubon HR vs Rockies

Mauricio Dubón, Evan Longoria power Giants to win | Rockies-Giants Game Highlights 9/23/20

7 game win streak

Austin Slater Homers Twice Off Kershaw

Series split w/ Dodgers to start the year

Donavan Solano’s 17-game hit streak

Evan Longoria’s 300th HR of Career

Evan Longoria’s 300th Home Run: 8/21/2020

10. August 18th,8-2 win over the Angels

Pablo Sandoval homers, knocks in three in 8-2 win | Giants-Angels Game HIghlights 8/18/20

This win was the turning point of the Giants’ season. They had just come off of 4 losses in a row with 3 blown leads of at least 4 runs with no playoff implications. This win sparked a 7game winning streak and helped the Giants with their potential playoff run.

  1. Pence 3-run HR

Pence, Crawford lead Giants to win | Giants-Astros Game Highlights 8/11/20

After struggling for most of the year Hunter Pence did the best thing he could. The Giants were down 2-6 and Pence hit a 3-Run home run to get the Giants back into the game. This sparked a rally and the Giants scored 2 additional runs and won in 10 innings.

  1. Joey Bart 1sthit/Debut

Giants plate 10 runs in win vs. the Angels | Angels-Giants Game Highlights 8/20/20

Joey Bart is the Giants’ top prospect who made his long-awaited major-league debut on August 20th, 2020. Many fans were calling on Giants’ President of Baseball Operations, Farhan Zaidi, to call up Bart to see what he could do at the major league level. Bart also got the first major league hit of his career in this game.

  1. 14-2win vs A’s

Ruf, Crawford spark 14-2 win for the Giants | Giants-Athletics Game Highlights 9/20/20

This game also came at the perfect time as it kept hope in fans and players of the Giants that they were still able to beat good teams, score runs, and make the playoffs late in the season.

  1. Anderson Complete GameShutout

Anderson throws 1st complete game in win | D-backs-Giants Game Highlights 8/22/20

This pitching performance by a Giants’ pitcher hasn’t been seen in a long time. The Giants were looking for someone other than starters Kevin Gausman and Johnny Cueto to step up and help out the rotation and give the bullpen some rest. Tyler Anderson did just that by pitching a complete game shutout against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

  1. 23-5 winvs Rockies

Giants put up 23 RUNS, Alex Dickerson hits 3 HRs in 23-5 win | Giants-Rockies Highlights 9/1/20

Another game that came at a perfect time for the Giants. This game gave them momentum going into the month of September, the last month of the season. This was also the 2nd highest run total a team scored in a game in the 2020 season, only the Atlanta Braves scored more with 28. Almost every player had a hit in this game, but the standout player was Alex Dickerson as he hit 3 home runs in 3 different spots.

  1. Mike Yastrzemski’s Spectacular Catch

Anderson throws 1st complete game in win | D-backs-Giants Game Highlights 8/22/20

At 2:27 in the video, Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, shows off his glove and makes a spectacular catch to keep Tyler Anderson’s shutout intact.

  1. Yaz Walk-off vs Padres

Mike Yaztsremski wins it for the Giants on a walk-off HR | Padres-Giants Game Highlights 7/29/20

Being the Giants’ best player can put a lot of weight on your shoulders, but if you do what Mike Yastrzemski did in this game, you should be fine. In one of the first games of the season, Yaz hit a walk off home run into McCovey Cove to get the win for the Giants.

  1. Donovan Solano Walk-off vs Dodgers

Donovan Solano walks it off in Giants’ win | Dodgers-Giants Game Highlights 8/25/20

This game is one of the best games I’ve seen. The Giants and Dodgers show why they’re the best rivalry in the MLB in this game. They go back and forth the entire game and there are plenty of home runs and exciting moments in this game. In the end, the Giants win it with a walk off home run from Donovan Solano in the bottom of the 11th inning.

1.Wilmer Flores’ 3-Run Home Run

Trent Grisham hits walk-off homer in Padres’ 6-5 win | Padres-Giants Game 2 Highlights 9/25/20

4:35 in the video. This was one of the last best moments of the Giants’ 2020 season. With the playoffs in sight, down by a run, and 2 runners on base, Wilmer Flores hits a 3-run home run off former Giant Drew Pomeranz (who hadn’t given up a run all season) to give the Giants the lead and potentially a playoff berth.
