Metalmark has generously given many students in Fresno Unified an extracurricular activity to do when they are struggling in school. In 2014, Touchstone climbing partnered with Project Reach to help purchase equipment for climbing. Edison, however, hasn’t taken Metalmark up on their offer (unlike many other schools in Fresno Unified).
There is still time to change this though. The manager of Metalmark has said that up to twenty students can get free membership if our school starts a club for climbers. The climbers at Edison would like to compete and work with other schools in the district and become an established club.
To do this, they would need to have people interested in a climbing club and a teacher willing to oversee the club and conduct practices. If you are interested or know a teacher who would be willing to “coach” for the climbing club, please reach out to Jace Kaiser.
This initiative aims to provide an exciting and inclusive opportunity for students to engage in a unique sport that promotes physical fitness, mental resilience, teamwork, and personal growth.
